ZAGREB, Jan 12 - The Croatian parliament on Saturday evening voted confidence in the new government, which is to be headed by Prime Minister Ivo Sanader in his second term in office. The new government has 15 ministries, two more than the previous one.

The government, comprising the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), the Peasant Party (HSS), the Social Liberal Party (HSLS) and the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS), was supported by 82 deputies of the ruling coalition, while 62 opposition deputies withheld their support.
The government has four deputy prime ministers - Jadranka Kosor of the HDZ, who is in charge of social affairs, foreign policy and human rights, Damir Polancec of the HDZ, who is in charge of the economy, Djurdja Adlesic of the HSLS, in charge of home affairs, and Slobodan Uzelac of the SDSS, who is in charge of regional development, reconstruction and return. Kosor will also hold the post of Minister of Family Affairs, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity, and Polancec will be Economy Minister.
Other HDZ members holding ministerial posts are the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Gordan Jandrokovic, Minister of the Interior Berislav Roncevic, Finance Minister Ivan Suker, Defence Minister Branko Vukelic, Justice Minister Ana Lovrin, the Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Bozidar Kalmeta, the Minister of Environmental Protection, Physical Planning and Construction, Marina Matulovic Dropulic, Health and Social Welfare Minister Darko Milinovic, Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic, the Minister of Science, Education and Sports, Dragan Primorac, and Petar Cobankovic, who will head one of the two new ministries - the Ministry of Regional Development and Forest and Water Management.
The other new ministry, in charge of tourism, will be headed by Damir Bajs of the HSS, and his party colleague Bozidar Pankretic will be heading the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development. After the parliament voted confidence in the new government, its ministers were sworn in. |
